Hello dear friends! Thank you for all your comments on our last blog entry. And as we are watching the terrible events in Japan unfold we thought we'd still like to share some good news with you in these dark times:

Our Sheltie-mama Treasure gave birth to 4 puppies on 13 March, 1 girl and 3 three boys, all sable and white. They are called the JACKSON FIVE after their daddy Jackson, Eastonia, Man in the Mirror (very impressive name, huh?)

We haven't yet seen any photos but as soon as we do we'll ask auntie Lynne if we can post one on our blog. This will have been our Sheltie-mama's last litter because she is now 6 years of age (we think?) and has raised many puppies in her life. We're sure she'll be enjoying her well-earned retirement!

It's autumn now and the cooler temperatures mean that we can go for longer walks.

We live very close to the Pakuratahi Forest Park
and go for walks there almost every day. You can make the walks as long as you like, starting from 1 hour going on to three days :)

Here we are at the Maymorn entrance to the park, only about 1km from our doorstep! Sorry, but there were too many nice smells to be paying attention to Mama and her camera.

Last week was quite wet so these fly agarics (mushrooms) have popped up all over the place. They are pretty nasty things actually, and Mama won't even let us sniff at them. They do make for nice photos, however!

Ah, yes we DO like our new hunting grounds!!!

And after a long walk what better is there to do than to cuddle up together for a little down time?

New Zealand Earthquake - We're in total shock!

Hello All! Just a quick update from us here at Bark-a-lot Lodge. As many of you will have heard, a terrible earthquake devastated the city of Christchurch yesterday.

We are safe but our thoughts and prayers go out to all those that have lost a loved one in the quake.

Fire and rescue services worked all through the night to free those people still trapped under collapsed buildings. We heard on the news this morning that a specialised crew of Ausralian rescue workers has just landed and there will be more rescue teams from the US, the UK, Japan and Taiwan arriving in the country today.

Please keep the people of Christchurch in your thoughts and prayers.

Woof Woof!

Hello all and a happy (belated) New Year to all of you! Yes, we are still around and ready to resume our live reports from our little corner of the world.

As most of you know, we left Bark-a-lot Towers in November of last year to go and live at Bark-a-lot Lodge here in rural Upper Hutt.

The transition was relatively easy; only Jessie cried for a few nights because she missed our old home but after that we were both fine.

Being a rural dog is great!!!! There are so many exciting sounds and smells that need to be investigated daily and we've encountered many strange and exotic animals on our daily walks, such as ducks, rabbits, horses, cows and even an alpaka!

Oh, and of course, after having been around for three years we finally got to meet SHEEP!! This mother and daughter team from next door buried through under our fence and came strolling onto our patio... ah we wish we'd been allowed out to chase and bite their woolly bottoms :)

Anyways, don't tell anyone, but there's another few sheep in a padock further down the road and when our Mama wasn't paying attention WE buried through under the fence and well... the sheep got to meet US! We didn't hurt them of course, but we chased them into a corral (after all, that's what we're bred to do, isn't it?) and only when we'd finished we returned to our Mama who was beginning to get a bit frantic on the other side of the fence :)

Behind our house, the hoomans have now constructed a fully fenced play area for us and soon we'll also have a farm gate at the front entrance which means we can go a bit further afield without Mama having to watch us all the time.

Because our section is so big Mama even had to have help getting the lawns mowed. A couple of weeks ago a hooman on a strange and noisy machine showed up and did it for her.

Mama has finally learned to drive the car although we don't really know why - Daddy rides to work in the belly of a long metal snake these days that runs right past our house three times a day! We have a photo of it somewhere but we can't find it right now, you'll be amazed when you see it!

Well, we're going to leave you now because it's time for our walkie!

From Bark-a-lot Towers to Bark-a-lot Lodge!

Hello dear furry friends! After a long absence, many trials and tribulations and quite a few setbacks we are proud to present:

A first glimpse of BARK-A-LOT LODGE, our new home from hopefully next month to furever.

We also wanted to say a big thank you to your for keeping us in your thougths and prayers, and your sincere and heartfelt comments on our blog. Our Papa is doing a lot better now and we frequently take him on little walks so he gets his strength back. It's a tough job but somedog has got to do it!

Our Ma is doing well. On the whole she's had a much better year than last year, even through our cold New Zealand winter. Thank Dogness it's spring now and the weather is slowly improving so we're looking forward to many walkies and new adventures.

And a few weeks ago a strange guest moved into our living room:

Our pawrents call this an exercise bike. Papa bought it for Mama so she can exercise even on cold windy days when she can't go out! We think it's a great idea... she needs to stay fit to accompany us on our walkies!

As most of you have probably heard, we truly had some bad weather over here, even a big earthquake on the South Island, ca. 300 miles from here. We slept right through it all :) But our house is built on rock, and there you don't feel earthquakes so much. It'll be a different thing out in the country!

A few weeks ago we had a big hailstrom that dumped lots of white frozen stuff on our verandah:

Papa made us go outside and check out the white stuff because we don't see it very often in these parts of the world, but to tell you the truth, we didn't like it one bit. It was cold, hard and stuck to our paws, brrh!!!

Well, that's all for now... gotta go, it's chicken for dinner! (And hopefully not just for the hoomans).

Heart Attack

Hello efurrybody! Yes, we are still here and we have NOT forgotten you! Unfortunately, shortly after our last post, some pretty bad stuff happened.

Dog-Dad John had what is called a "heart attack" and had to go to hospital and even after he was released, twice strange men in red coats (no, not the Redcoats!) with bulky, noisy equipment came in the middle of the night and led him away again because he developed "complications".

Our Papa after he's had an angiogram to determine how bad the blockage in his heart is

Our Mama said that we shouldn't worry and that these men were there to help Papa but we barked and hollered at them nonetheless, we were so confused!

Mama explained to us that an artery in Papa's heart had got blocked and that he will have to take it very easy from now on because this part of his heart is no longer functioning.

These things aren't easy for two young dogs to comprehend, but we do know that each one of us has his own sick human to look after now: I (Josh) look after Mama, and Jessie looks after Papa.

He tends to have very cold feet these days and likes it when Jessie lies across them while he and Mama are having dinner :o) She also offered to sit on his head because he does not have very much fur left up there but he refused and said that his floppy old woollen hat would do just fine (but we know that Mama is planning a trip to town to buy him a much nicer one... psst, don't tell him!!).

But today was a very special day: For the first time since all this happened, Papa felt strong enough to take us for a little walk around the block. Afterward he said to Mama that he was very impressed how gentle we were with him... not tugging on the leash and always making sure that he could keep up with us.

Hopefully things will get better quickly from hereon. In our next post we'll show you the first pictures of 'Bark-a-lot-Lodge', the construction of which started four weeks ago.

Hello dear friends!

Please excuse our long absence but, as some of you have correctly guessed, the hoomans and ourselves were very busy exploring our future new hunting grounds in Maymorn Waters and the planning and design of "Bark-a-lot Lodge".

We're now awaiting building consent and if all goes well, construction may start in a few weeks' time. We may be relocating as early as December but more likely sometime early next year.

We have already met most of our new neighbours - furry and non-furry - and are pleased to report that almost every house will have at least one dog, if not two! :)

Romeo is a Great Pyrenees (or Pyrenean Mountain Dog) and about three times the size of Josh although he's still only a puppy! In fact I, Josh, was a little bit scared of him, so my sister Jessie chipped in and bit the young upstart on the nose to show him who's boss! The youngster was so dumbfounded it didn't even occur to him to bite her back! (Thank Dogness because he would have swallowed her whole!!)

We'll hopefully be back with more updates soon!

Our new hunting grounds

Hi all, Jessie reporting. Well, I have to congratulate Ma and Pa on their choice of new hunting grounds for the Bark-a-lot pack! They took me on an outing there on Saturday and I had so much fun!!!

Of course, this meant having to go in the big black car first, but for once, I didn't get car sick so the whole experience wasn't too traumatic :)

Bark-a-lot Lodge has just been pegged out so here you can see Ma and I in what is going to be Joshie's and my room. Cool, huh?

And here's a picture of me warming my bottom on the newly created road:

At the end of the road you come to a little river. There are two sections for sale there, too but they won't ever be built on because they are in a flood plain. A farmer has expressed interested in grazing his cows there but until that happens, we can just enjoy the wonderful parkland!

And now pay close attention because you're getting to see something quite unusual!

I VOLUNTARILY GET MY PAWS WET!!!!!

It was quite enjoyable actually but - pssst - don't tell anyone I said that!

I was off leash all afternoon which made it even more fun! I can't wait to actually move there now. Of course, the house won't be built for a little while yet but hopefully there'll be may more outings to come.

Hello efurryone! We have some pawesome photos for you! This afternoon, a massive hail storm moved in from the south and Mama captured it on camera. Within a few minutes the sky literally went black and then the heavens opened and deposited large hailstones in our back yard. Enlarge the pictures and have a look a the little yachts out in the harbour in the left of the photos. They have no idea what's about to hit them!

And where's the safest place for two Shelties to be during such events???

Bark yourself slim!

Hello efurryone! This is little Jessie reporting. My brother and I went for our annual health check up last week and we've both been given a clean bill of health - except that the vet wasn't happy that I've turned into a little, well, fattie and gained 3kg of weight over the past year.

Now, please believe me, it's not because I'm doing nothing all day, just lazing around my crate

or on the cool kitchen floor

but because the dry dog food I was fed was too rich in fat and I just kept packing it on.

My pawrents will have to feed me a different brand of dog food in future but for now, I've been put on diet dog food for small breeds.

This will hopefully help me kickstart my diet and then I can go back to 'normal' dog food when I've slimmed down.

*Sigh* - so now I'm officially a teenager with weight issues. I wonder if it's possible to bark oneself slim? Because that's what I do best!

Looking to the future

Hello dear friends! Please excuse our long absence. As you all know, our Mama is not very well so we were very busy looking after her. In the photo above, I am attending to a most difficult task: Keeping Mama warm, entertained and happy. :o) It's a dog's life!

But quite apart from that, we have some very interesting news to share! Our pawrents have been sniffing out new hunting grounds for our pack and found THIS:

A grassy meadow in what is called the 'countryside'. It's located 40 minutes north of Wellington city and if everything goes well, this will be the site of the new Bark-a-lot Towers from either later this year or early next year. Our pawrents believe that Mama will be feeling a lot healthier there because it's sunnier, less windy and much drier than where we currently live.

The best thing is there won't be any more steps to climb and we'll probably have to rename Bark-a-lot Towers "Bark-a-lot Lodge" :)

Also, there will be real life sheep and cows and pigs to chase - uh - watch there and , of course, plenty of other dogs. One of our prospective new neighbours even has a young Border Collie named Jess!

As you can see, plenty has been happening here over the past few weeks.

It's all a bit tiring if you ask us.

Happy New Decade!

Well, hello dear furry friends! No, we have not fallen off the face off the earth, but our Mama hasn't been feeling well all through December due to a very nasty fibromyalgia flare so we've been extremely busing cuddling and comforting her. Her arms and shoulders were so painful that she at times couldn't even hold a cup of coffee. :(

Obviously, the old Sheltie charm worked its magic because she's feeling a lot better now.

So, we wish you all a very happy (belated) Christmas and New Year - or should we say, New Decade???

We had a beautiful sunrise here in New Zealand yesterday and our Daddy had climbed one of our highest local hills, Mt. Kau Kau (595m) at 4.00am in the morning to take some sunrise shots. Here they are - aren't they beautiful?? These photos were taken shortly before 6.00am. If you enlarge them, you can see the sunrise over the city of Wellington.

Naturally we also had the first cuddle of the New Decade! Here's Dad and Joshie giving it a go:

Happy Barkday to us!!!! We're 2!!!!!

Hello efurrybody!!! It's our 2nd birthday today, how cool is that!!!!

Unfortunately, the weather is currently very bad so we may have to wait till the afternoon for our barkday walkie (if at all...) but we've had a fabulous day so far.

When Daddy woke us up this morning, he sang 'Happy Barkday Dear Doggies' to us and then Mama sang a German song called 'Wie schoen dass Du geboren bist, wir haetten Dich sonst sehr vermisst' which translates 'How wonderful that you've been born, we would have missed you so'. Of course, we speak German as well as English - although when Mama speaks German to us we're usually in trouble, hehe.

And look what we saw when we looked out of the window - a big cruise ship full of people! We wonder if they'll all be coming to our pawty???

We met our half-sister Holly!

Hello, dear furry faces everywhere. Guess what happened today: When we went to the supermarket with our Mama, we bumped into our half-sister Holly and her hooman mum!!! We believe they live about a 30 minute's drive from us in the city of Porirua, but we're not entirely sure.

We were too busy catching up on family events to exchange email addresses :)

Unfortunately, Mama had forgotten her camera so we don't even have a picture to share with you.:( :(

Holly is about Jessie's size and has a delicate little face just like her. She has a different dad and her coat is a little more ginger-ish and not quite as thick but one can definitely see the family resemblance. Her hooman num noticed immediately that I (Josh) am a chip off the old block (my dad Theo) albeit a whole lot bigger :) :)

After our bath on Friday we've now finally shed our winter coats and are feeling a bit cooler. When we got up on Saturday morning, the loose fur was hanging off us in clumps so Mama could simply brush it out. We look a lot slimmer now although it doesn't show in the photos.

We keep reminding our Mama that she still hasn't shared the big news with you that we talked about in one of our previous posts but she's currently very busy undertaking a research project for the bossdog which is also the reason we haven't commented on your bloggies lately. Hopefully this will all change though by the end of the week because we have a whole lot of catching up to do.

Hi all, Josh and Jessie reporting. Well, I'm certainly not smiling so happily in the photo above because I've just had a bath (YUK!!!!!) but because my ordeal is over!!!

Josh was so embarrassed by his wet looks he didn't even want to be in the picture. However, Mama captures some great video of the two of us drying ourselves off on the fence.

And then there was this: (Josh: "Mama you're in soooo much trouble for posting this!")

Yup, this is how it goes in our household. They put a leash round your neck and march you off into the shower cubicle under the false pretense that there's dog biscuits waiting for you in there. Alas, and we fall for it every time :(

At least it's nice and sunny out there today so we should be dry again in no time.

Hi all, this is Jessie reporting. My mama says you should not be deceived by the sweet innocent look on my face because toward the end of last week I gave her a big fright.

The mailman came to deliver a parcel and he left the front gate open, so while he was shooing Josh away who was sniffing at his trouser legs, I took the opportunity to go for a little morning walk - ALL BY MYSELF!!! (Mind you, I'm nearly two now, so I consider myself a big girl!!!)

I was gone for about an hour before my Mama even noticed I was missing. In fact, she only knew about the whole thing because I couldn't open the front gate to let myself back in so I had to bark and yelp for assistance.

Mama's face in the office window when she spotted me sitting on the wrong side of the fence, was priceless. The talking to that I got after I was hugged and cuddled and carried back in was, too!

Josh wanted to know where I went.... well, I went to give the cat from number 4 a good bashing but he wasn't home. Was out chasing mice probably. He sometimes comes up onto the verandah at night when we're in our crate and laughs at us because they keep us locked up at night. His name is Tassie and he is such a rude fellow, he really deserves a lesson. Anyways, it didn't happen this time 'round.

But wait, Tassie, I'll be back!

Hello dear friends! Well, the photo above pretty much sums up what's been happening over here since our last post - NOT MUCH!

After our super winter, Spring has proved to be cold, wet and miserable and it has been raining now for at least two weeks in a row.

We've even gotten used to Mama blow drying our fur coats :( :( and you can count the number of walks we went on over the past few weeks on one paw :(

Nonetheless we had to put a lot of effort into entertaining our Mama because the cold weather makes her fibromyalgia to flare up and she needs extra cuddles during the day.

Jessie had had a sore leg for a couple of days but nothing serious. We're not entirely sure what happened, maybe she slipped on the kitchen floor or, more likely, copped a bite from me (Josh) when we chasing each other around the dining room table late last week. Of course it doesn't help that she won't let anybody touch her legs and paws, not even our Papa, so they couldn't quite figure out what was wrong but whatever it was, it's now okay again.

The Paws-in-charge keep telling us not to play chase indoors but sometimes we just can't help ourselves - the dining room makes a fantastic racecourse!!!

Hi all! I just wanted to show you my latest 'kill' - a huge big cannon bone that Mama personally bought at the butcher's for me.

As you can see, I am awfully proud of it and keep parading it around the front deck so that everydog can see just how big and juicy it is - and it's MINE!!!!!! :)

How to store a fur coat

Hi all. Sorry we've been a bit quiet lately but there's nothing much going on here except that we've just started shedding our winter coats.

Yes, really!!

And technically seen it's not even Spring yet. Mama says it's because it's been so warm lately. But we're two months early!!!

So, now we're being brushed every day .... how boring!
We wonder if the bag will be full at the end of the month???

(We also wonder why on earth she keeps the stuff in a plastic bag... we hope she's not going to try and glue it back on in case we have a cold spell????)

A visitor to our front porch!

Jeepers! Has it really been over a week since we've last updated our blog? Well, the bad news is, we haven't really got anything to blog about at the moment, but the good news is: We're going to show you some nice pictures of us!
Yesterday we had a special visitor out on the front deck - our elusive PAPA :-) :-) He'd interrupted his work long enough to come and have his morning coffee with Mamaa and us out on the front deck.

Notice in the pictures how Papa is wearing thick winter furs while Mama (whose reflection you can see in the window behind Papa if you look closely enough) is wearing summer shorts and a T-shirt???? He really needs to get out more!

Mama even treated us to a few drops of coffee :-)

Hmmm.... yum... how is it that only hooman are allowed whole cupfuls of the brown brew????

And guess what we've spotted in our garden - a snow drop!!! (Of the New Zealand variety)

Taking advantage of the warm weather

Hello all! Well, we haven't been up to much last week and over the weekend, just taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather. According to the weather forecast though things should be back to normal on Thursday and our NZ winter will continue with wind and rain like it's supposed too. Too bad!

But while it lasts, we're enjoying ourselves out on the front deck. Here is me (Josh) getting a deep tissue massage by Mama...

... after which I promptly fell asleep while on fence patrol! Psssst... don't tell anyone!

We don't go walking until a little later in the afternoon when it's cooler:

And here we are now on our way home. Mama wanted us to pose and sit still but we were pretty tired by now and just wanted to get going.

... what the pink fluffy ball is for! The Mama uses it to make - um - nice things!

Can you see? No? Well, here's a close up:

She says that shortly after our second birthday we can help her put them on the Christmas tree.

Apart from that it's been quiet around here - literally! The workmen next door have finally disappeared so we no longer need to bark at them at 7am :-)

Jessie didn't feel very well yesterday. A bird had dropped dog-knows-what onto the verandah and Jessie ate it before we could get to her. A few hours later she came down with very bad diarrhea that left her a bit wobbly for the rest of the day. It was so bad that Mama even had to clean her bottie with warm wet towels and then cut a 'chute' into her fur... I mean, a flightpath so to speak :)in case there was more.

Fortunately she's feeling much better today.

Oh, and then I (Josh) got told off big time last night too! Mama found a big clump of fur under one of the dining room tables and didn't know where it came from until she inspected Jessie's fur a bit closer. Well, what can I say, I got carried away a bit when we played and I'd grabbed her by the fur on her bottom and dragged her across the room. When I finally released her I had this big clump of fur in my mouth so I spit it out under the chair and hoped that nobody would find it - duh!

But peace and order has finally been restored, as you can see below :)

Another week gone by

Hello all. Well, it's been a quiet week here at Bark-a-lot Towers. The weather has been very nice and we've spent lots of time outdoors on the front deck and watched the world go by. Yesterday and the day before yesterday it got up to 18 degrees celsius and that in the middle of winter! Mama grabbed a coffee and a book and sat outside with us on her blue deck chair. On a few occasions she also brought out the pink fluffy balls but we got upset that she wouldn't let us play with them and started to jump up on her so they quickly disappeared back into the basket where they are 'safe from us'... grrh!

There's a beautiful cherry tree blossoming in our front yard now. You can see it in the picture below. Unfortunately, it doesn't produce any cherries so we wonder why they are calling it that. Maybe because it has such lovely pink flowers?

Earlier in the week though, Mama unleashed some real horror news on us - she told us that she had a new JOB! We nearly fainted!!!!!! We know what it's like when hoomans get jobs - they leave early in the morning, pat our heads, tell us to watch the house and then one is left to sit by the front gate all day wondering what may befall them in the big city.... terrible!!!! As you can see, Jessie was quite overwhelmed by it all...

But then she calmed us down again and told us that the job wasn't in the city. She can do her work from home over the computer and we were told that we could come and visit her in the little home office any time we liked. We just have to be a bit quiet when she's working and not play bitey-face behind her chair.

There was also talk about new juicy cannon bones and a set of new toys... maybe this job thingy isn't so bad after all. We'll let you know how it goes!

It's just not fair...

Hi all, Jessie reporting. I'm having to let off some steam here because it's just not fair!!!! Our Mama has bought herself some cool new toys and she just won't share them with me although I keep asking her for them.

They are two wonderful pink cute fluffy balls - every Sheltie girl's dream! - but no, she just won't give them to me. I went through my entire repertoire of tricks to show her that I was wanting to work hard for them but alas, still nothing. Instead she gave me an old loo roll to paly with and patted my head.

Aren't these toys much better than a loo roll?????

And it got even worse. My big brother sauntered over and took one look at the toys and then said: THEY ARE CAT TOYS!!!! So now he keeps saying that I was obviously in touch with my feline side - whatever that means!

So, here I am, stuck with a loo roll to play with and they have also threatened me with a pedicure because my paws are so untidy.

I think I need some time out... I'll go and lie behind the sofa a bit.

Spring is in the air!

Yippieh! The sky is blue, the grass and the first daffodils of the season are growing and the whole world is looking a lot brighter suddenly :) Don't you just love the view from our verandah? It's unbeatable on a good day (and on a bad day, too!!!)

We've actually been very busy although we were stuck indoors for the best part of last week. Our Mama was not well and needed a lot of TLC (= tender loving care) - no problem for expert Sheltie care givers like us! If you want to know what exactly happened, you can read about it on our Mama's personal blog, a link to which is in the top linkbar or HERE.

This morning though we've been out and about and even played a game of fetch the - um - underpants with Mama! :-)

Daddy kindly relinquished an old pair of his' after seeing how much fun we've had with them.

Apart from that, nothing's new but we're hoping to be able to go out and photograph some of our lovely spring flowers in a few days. There are crocuses, snow drops and daffodils springing up all over the place now.

Bad weather - all walks cancelled

Hi guys, just checking in to say hello. There isn't a lot happening over here at the moment because we're being battered by yet another bout of very severe weather and Mama has cancelled all walkies until further notice.

As you can probably guess from our grumpy and dishevelled appearance in the picture above - we don't like it one bit!!! :-(

Actually the weather is so bad that trains have hit landslips not once but twice in the last 24 hours! We recorded this from TV3 earlier today: (NOTE: the lady "barks" with a Kiwi accent; Mickey Mouse Labs are currently working on accent conversion for non-New Zealand viewers.... hehe, only joking).

Grooming Session

Hi all! Jessie here. Look at me!! Mama and I had a good grooming session earlier today and here you can see me in all my furry glory :) As you can see, I'm covered again in thick glossy fur from top to toe and this time I'll see to it that it stays that way!!! Josh said that the reason Mr Reilly wasn't interest in me is because I looked 'butch'. Teenage boys can be so rude!!! Mama said a young dog doesn't always mean what he says but it's pretty hurtful nonetheless :(

I now let Mama brush me every second day now and sometimes I even help and roll on my side or my tummy for her. I like having my tummy scratched :)It's nice.

Oh, and can you see this? I have a little ouchie on my eye. Mama thinks it's from playing bitey-face with but she can't tell for sure because I never complain much. It may have happened outside for all we know and I can't really remember - but it's healing already so it's no big deal.

A walk in the clouds

Hello all! Well, Wellington can feel positively Alpine at times :) Have a look at this. This is what Pa calls an 'inversion' or, in layman's terms 'a sea of low cloud'.

Our house is perched high on a steep hill and when we awoke to a nice sunny morning with brilliant blue skies, guess what we saw in the valley below: a carpet of thick low cloud that covered the entire valley.

Ma grabbed the digital camera and then we were treated to a walk in the clouds. After a quick stop at a lookout (photo above)we went down a steep road and descended right into the thick cool mist.

Pretty spooky, huh? As if we had somehow crossed into a different world! Little droplets formed on our whiskers and Ma's eyelashes.

We love adventures like this one!

A "where's-the-remote-box" is for life and not just for Christmas!

Hi all. Look what we spotted on our walkie today! It's a "where's-the-remote-box" and it stood all by itself on the side of the road. Looks like someone has abandoned it!

We were shocked!!! We asked Mama if we could take it home with us but she said no because we've already got one and have no space for more. Apparently they are also quite expensive to feed.

That's so sad :( We just hope someone will come by and give it a new home because there's so many people and animals living inside of it - it deserves to have a nice home where it's looked after and loved like the two of us.

So listen you hoomans: A "where's-the-remote-box" is for life and not just for Christmas!!!!!

Almost Wordless Wednesday

Hello all. Here we are again! We were meaning to update our blog a lot earlier than this but our Mama hasn't been too well this last week. We're in the middle of winter now, so it's very cold and damp and her fibromyalgia has been giving her a lot of grief.

As you can see, we both had our hands full comforting her and keeping her warm :-) Sorry about the bad quality of the picture but we used the camera phone and the flash isn't very bright.

On a brighter note, we did manage to get a nice juicy cannon bone from the butcher's :) Too bad we're not allowed inside with it... we wouldn't mind chewing it while the hoomans watch telly!

A gift from Reilly!

Hello all! Look what we've had in the mail on Saturday: A parcel from Reilly because we've taken part in the pee mail challenge and shown him one of the best overseas pee mail spots :)

Mama helped us opening it and look what we found!! Tasty treats, a card with Reilly's photo and a book. Reilly's mom knows how much our Ma likes to read so they decided to include a book that our Ma can read to us on cold winter's nights. They are so thoughtful!!!

Um... about the card: Take a closer look at Jessie's face! I think we may have problem :)

Oh-oh! I think most of you know that deep down Reilly likes Katie!!! We've been trying to tell her, but three days later she still walks around starry-eyed.

I (Josh) don't know what Reilly think about all this, but I, for my part, hope she'll get over it quickly... all this "Reilly" talk when I'm trying to go to sleep at night is a bit exhausting :)

Shelties behind bars!

Hi all. If, in the picture above, we look wet and miserable to you, then that's because we ARE wet and miserable and feeling VERRRY sorry for ourselves.

How it got to this? Well, it's really all Mama's fault!! Last night she forgot to go on poop patrol so this morning we had a flippin' good time playing with the icy popsicles :) In the end we had it between our toes, in our fur and - sorry - between our teeth. It first dawned on us that this hadn't been such a good idea after all when Mama came out, took one look at us and then telephoned Daddy. Oh-oh!

Pretty serious stuff!! When she had finished speaking to Dad she came out again and then with a wicked (!!!) smile on her face, grabbed first Jessie and then me and gave us a BATH. And as if that wasn't enough, we were BLOW DRIED afterwards and then locked away in our crate until we were totally dry :( And Daddy called us 'naughty kids' when came back later in the afternoon.

So we kept a very low profile all through the day but thankfully around dinner time our pawrent's mood had improved and they even gave us a new toy - a discarded little sock that they found on the road! It has a little bell in the shape of a ladybug sewn on it and makes noises just like a squeaky toy. Jessie was over the moon :)

In the video below you can see - and hear - us fight over it. The quality isn't so good (it improves after the first 10 secs) because it was already but we think you'll get the picture :)

A big disappointment

Hi all. We're a bit grumpy today. Our pawrents had been promising us "snow", you know, the soft white flakey stuff that many of you blogged and complained about not too long ago? Well, we didn't get any. Instead the sky turned yellow and it rained little ice cubes!

Unbelievable. Our Mama took us outside so we could get a good look at that stuff that she called 'hail' but we found it pretty disappointing. The hail stones were too tiny to be played with and they didnt' taste nice either. Where's our snow?????

To matter matters worse, Jessie has had really bad diarrea this morning. Mama thinks she must have been raiding the trash can again. She does that sometimes. It was pretty disgusting if you ask me. Her ( Jessie's) bum smelled funny and Mama had to wipe it with a soft wet cloth...brrrh! She seems to be doing fine though, she's been annoying me all day and we hope it's just a one off. There was a funny moment this morning when Mama nearly stepped into it and gagged, hehe.

After the storm...

Hello efurrybody! As you can see, the storm has finally passed and guess what - the big yellow thing in the sky has reappeared!!! We were so happy because we know that the yellow thing means outdoor play time and walkies.

The last few days have not been very pleasant at all. Mama even said that we were a nuisance and that she would swap us for a hamster! Only because we got bored watching her read a book and went off in search for greener pastures. We found them in the kitchen where the door to the pantry stood open and so we raided it ...

... and played catch me if you can in the dining room...

... and got a bit carried away... (edit Jessie: JOSH got carried away!!!)

... because we were confined to the house for FOUR days. It's not easy for two sheepdogs to not be able to run and play :(

I (Josh) did apologise for the puddle on the kitchen floor though and then helped Mama in the kitchen.

So - do you still want to swap us for a hamster, Ma?

Hi folks, we're having a blast again today in Wellington - literally :)

I accompanied Mama to the post office this morning and at times we struggled to say on our paws. We even left Jessie at home because we were afraid that she'd be blown over the cliffs. Maybe Grandmaw can sew her a little parachute!!!

Below is another short 'windy' video and the photo above shows me and two lovely little ladies outside the local post office in Khandallah.

We also finally managed to find those fire hydrants that the dachshund had told us about but boy, they were a disappointment!! We'll write about that soon.

Another dose of bad weather

Good evening all, your local weather frog Josh reporting. Dog, it's been really bad this week. We've had everything from showers to thunder storms with lightning strikes and even hail! And apparently there's plenty more heading our way. But this afternoon was more or less dry so we went on a long walk together. Here you can see (and hear) how windy it was:

Isn't it funny how the man and his dog didn't even notice us???

After our walkie I helped my Ma in the kitchen where we made risotto-filled bell peppers. The ingredients (especially the cream!!!) had to be watched and protected from daddy and I'm just the dog for the job:

After we'd filled the bell peppers with the risotto they were put in the oven and I made sure that they didn't try and jump out.

Boy, it's a tough job being the dog of the house!!! But my daddy clearly appreciates all my hard work:

Dogs with blogs and jobs too!

Hi all! Please excuse us for having been so quiet for a while but last week has been somewhat tiring for all of us.

You know, as if we weren't busy enough writing our bloggie, we now have JOBS, too!!! We are working as pet therapists from home :-)

See, our Mama has this chronic illness called Fibromyalgia which makes her feel real bad most of the time, kind of like how I felt when I got home from Ludo's birthday party, just worse. So we've been searching the internet for cures for fibro and on one site it said that pet therapy can work wonders.

And now we've taken it upon ourselves to make our Mama better and it's a blimmin' hard job too!!! She needs morning cuddles and lunchtime cuddles and teatime cuddles and dinnertime cuddles; twice a day we take her for hourlong walks and one of us has to be on standby to act as a hot water bottle for sore legs afterwards. (Mostly Jessie because I weigh in at almost 19kg!)

Our Mama has also been on the computer a lot and created a website for her fellow fibro people because there isn't enough information about this illness out there yet.

My sister Jessie even lend her her pretty little face for something called a 'gravatar'.

So, as you can see, we're two very busy Shelties right now.

Finally - a long walk!

Hi all. Yay, the weather is finally improving so yesterday the three of us went on a long walk together while our daddy took the car and drove down to Animates to hunt for some dog food.

But - what's this??? What does it say on that sign??? They are going to close our favourite quiet road for a few days.

Oh no!! We love it here. :(

Let's have a quick look at the harbour. Pretty rough out there by the looks of it!

And we're having to check our pee-mails, too. What does it say here? "Standard Poodle, female, looking for...." Oh là là !!! (*Josh blushes, Mama pulls on leash, Jessie groans*)

Oh no! Can you see that? The hilltop is in cloud! Walk on Mama, we're going to get VERY wet!!!

Phew... We're nearly home home now and look - there's daddy too!!! He's on his way home just like us. Got any food in the car, dad??

Hi folks. Sorry for having been so quiet this last week but we just don't have a lot to talk about at the moment. The weather continues to be VERY wet so we're spending most of our time indoors. Even some our walkies got cancelled!!

Having to go to potty is not much fun when it's like this outside:

However, at least that way we can attend to another important job: Keeping our our Ma busy and out of trouble:

And when we don't work on our tricks, play or eat we SLEEP!

Unfortunately, they have forecast rain for pretty much the rest of the week so I guess we'll be sleeping A LOT! :-)

Gone camping!

Brrh! It's cold and windy outside and it has been raining heavily for most of the day so we decided to go and camp out in our crate for the day.

Mama brought our water dish in and we carried our bone and our favourite toys inside and put them in the crate also.

While Josh was busy chewing away on his bone, I did some abs exercises for my slim waist :)

I have forgiven Josh for the episode with my duckie, but yesterday he did something really yucky - he peed in my face!! Yes, really!! Well, it wasn't entirely his fault... we were out on a walk and walking next to each other when he suddenly stopped and cocked his leg. I was wondering why he pulled such strange faces and stuck my little nose right between his legs and then - eeeek!!!

When we got home Mama washed my little face with a wash cloth but I'm still pretty upset because she laughed and Josh called me a 'silly moo'. I don't even know what a 'moo' is!!!! :(

*Sigh* It's not easy being a young Sheltie girl!

Relax folks! This isn't the easter bunny but Jessie's beloved 'Duckie'. And - um - she actually doesn't know yet that I've killed Duckie so if you could keep quiet about it, that would be great. :-)

I just had to let off some steam, you know ... we went for a walk earlier today and bumped into 'Tazzie' from two doors down. Will you believe it, the stupid cat actually laughed at me because I was leashed and couldn't get to him and then he snarled and pulled faces at me!! I begged my Mama to give me five minutes alone with the guy but she wouldn't. Why is it that most female bipeds tend to have a soft spot for cats???!

Anyways, when we got home I grabbed the next best thing after that silly cat's throat and gave it a onceover!!! I hope Jessie will understand!!

Maybe I should give Duckie to Mama and see if she can make it whole again? The squeaker is still intact and I only took the stuffing out. Yeah, I think a trip to horsepital is in order... I'll see what I can do. Till laters, Josh.

Hide and Seek

Hi all. Jessie here. Man, I got grounded again this morning because I wouldn't stop barking at our neighbour :-) He and his family were loading their car to go away for the long weekend and all the noise and commotion just drove me spare!!

But it wasn't all bad. With Josh outdoors I had my Ma all to myself for a while and we played one of my favourite games, hide and seek. Do you think she'll spot me lying under the carpet there?

And after we got tired of playing I went and hung out in my bedroom for a bit.

After Mama was sure that the neighbours had well and truly gone I was allowed out again and later the three of us went on nice long afternoon walk together. As you can see, we discovered another interesting thing. It's called a 'trailer' and it's used to transport stuff from one place to another. I wonder if there have been sheep on this one? It kind of smelled funny and Josh and I made sure to give it a good sniffing before we walked on.

Last but not least we walked past Hector Hedge-dog's dwelling place so we could say hello and catch up on the latest happenings in the neighbourhood.

Hi folks. Hope you're all enjoying your weekend. We haven't been up to much really, but yesterday we found a cool toy right outside someone's driveway and decided to take it home with us.

It's a big strong cardboard tube!!!! Yay!!!! We love them!! They are so much fun!!

We also went on another twilight walk hoping to bump into our new friend Hector again but he must have been busy hunting in the undergrowth because we didn't find him.

The humans changed their clocks to winter time last night which means that from now on it'll be dark when we go for our evening walkie. We don't like the idea much... it's been summer for so long that we've almost forgotten what it is like to walk in the dark. Everthing looks, sounds and smells so different! But maybe we'll finally catch a cat or two... their eyes glow in the dark!

Calm autumn morning

We enjoyed a cool crisp morning in Wellington today. Mama put on a warm jacket and then we went on an hour long walk. It was nice and relaxing because the streets were literally deserted. People were either at work or at school and we only met one other dog.

But then we came across a strange big thing that frightened us at first. Ma said they call this a 'boat' and it's for travel on water. She then told us how she went on a boat like this once, to go from England to France. Apparently the boat shook so much that she vomited all over Papa....hmmm, that sounds strangely familiar to us!!! We do this when we go places by car :)

Oh, and last night we met our first hedge-dog!!! Mama didn't have her camera with her to take a picture of him, but we found one on the internet. This is what he looks like:

He had short spiky fur and funny little legs. We could tell he was scared of us because when we approached him, he curled up in a ball and wouldn't move but I (Josh) just wagged my tail at him and continued to sniff at him gently. So, after the introductions were made, he just uncurled and went on his merry way. He says his name is Hector. I wonder if we'll see him again?

A gift from Reilly!!!

Hi all! We had a package in the mail today!!!! Our buddy Reilly has sent us a card and two beautiful Sheltie charms that his Mom picked up in Platte River State Park, Nebraska last week.

We were so excited, we could hardly sit still enough to have our photo taken with our pressies!!! Mama opened the package for us and read Reilly's card to us and then she showed us the beautiful charms.

Aren't they beautiful? And you know what - because we're good Sheltie kids and love our Mama more than anything we decided to give the charms to her instead of decorating our crate with them. :)

Mama was so happy, she nearly cried! We went off to have a look in her jewelry box together and found a strong silver chain that belonged to her Grandmaw and now she's wearing one of the little Shelties around her neck.

Thank you Reilly, you've made the three of us very happy today!!!!

Saturday afternoon walk

The weather was nice again today so we went on another great walk. It is quite cool now in the mornings; perfect walking weather!

This time we headed into uncharted territory. Our Ma took us to a place from where you can see something called a 'gorge'. On the way there we stopped off at a little wooden viewing platform from which you get a reasonable view of Wellington city. Then we took a left turn and walked along a boring long road until we reached the end and there it was: The Ngauranga Gorge! Isn't that a cool view???

On the way home we had to stop off at the viewing platform again because Josh was tired and wanted to rest his paws and there was nowhere else to sit so the three of us flopped down together on the wooden floor.

I sat on Mama's lap of course!

After we'd watched the world go by for a few minutes we slowly trotted home. What a great day!!

I was right. Miss Daisy IS another stuffie - Mama said she got two for the price of one. By the way - Mr Ed has been stitched up in Mama's field horsepital and will be returning to active duty tomorrow :)

As you can see - Miss Daisy is a tough old girl! She has thus far managed to withstand the force of the Jesstroyer for two whole days :) I may have to sharpen my teeth on the table legs again, what do you think???

The Jess-struction of Mr Ed!

Hi all, Jessie here. Remember a few weeks ago when Josh told you about his first kill, the blue squeaky toy? Well, today I followed suit!!!

Ma had gotten me a new squeaky toy and we named it Mr Ed. We're not sure if it's supposed to be a horse, a cow, or some other animal but it sure was fun to play with, only the fun lasted all of five minutes because then I had ripped open Mr Ed's belly and was about to pull his squeaker out of his stomach when Ma stepped in and stopped the fun :(

Anyways, call me 'Jess the Jesstroyer', haha!!!!

Mama said she hoped Miss Daisy lasted a bit longer because this was getting to be pretty expensive.

Who or what is Miss Daisy I wonder???? Could it be another squeaky toy???? More fun??? Stay tuned for more from the Jesstroyer!!!! Grrrrrrrh!!!!!!!!

G'day all. We've just come back from a pawsome morning walk. Ma took us to a place called Khandallah Park where you can walk in the forest!!!!!

We don't go there very often because it's a loooong way from our home, so you can only do it on cool days otherwise you'll have to take some water with you.

We like the forest. There are so many sights and smells that you can explore and we're not scared at all. Jessie stayed relatively close to Ma but I sniffed out every tree and stuck my nose under every bush. We also met lots of other people and dogs.

There was a tense moment when we passed a childrens' playground and a little girl came running up to Jessie but we quickly went another way and the girl didn't follow. Phew...

On the way home we briefly stopped to take this pawtastic picture of Wellington harbour. This is Papa's favourite spot in the whole wide world and we're sure he'll appreciate the photo. When we went for a first ever walk, Papa took us here so this place is kind of special to us. Because it's a clear day you can see right across to Cape Palliser.

When we got home we were VERY tired :-) What a great day!!!

Hey all, look at me!!!

I went to the grooming salon today and this is the result: Shiny, silky and soft fur! Don't you just want to stretch out your hand and pet me????

Mama told me to tell you that I also smell very pleasant, but that's just her opinion - Jessie said I smell funny, like they've stolen my real smell!!

Anyways, it was a great experience. The groomer was a nice lady and I kissed her while she brushed me and I shook paws with her also. She liked me so much, that she even asked my Ma if she could take me home with her! I must admit - I liked the lady, too (and I can be a right old charmer if I want to!). :-)

The walk home appeared to be so much longer than the walk to the salon, but that's probably because I was pretty tired by then and we had to walk uphill for about a kilometer.

We came past this little bench and had a bit of a break there before we walked on.

By the time we got home I was so exhausted that I just collapsed on the carpet and fell asleep. I didn't even say hi to Papa or show off my shiny coat but he woke me gently a little while later and we had a cuddle.

What an exhausting afternoon!

Some time ago our friend Reilly posted some pictures of his dog Mom and Dad, so we had a look through our files and thought we'd do the same and show you some family photos.

Our mother is NZ Ch Edenmist Treasured Image, called 'Treasure' and here's a picture of her. Isn't she a beautiful lady?

And this is our Dad, Theo. We've posted a picture of him before but in the photo below you can see how much I (Josh) resemble him:

Dog Dad's full name is NZ Ch Nigma Theodore (Exp NZ). Cool, huh?

Our dog parents met in 2007 and just a few short weeks later, we were born!

We have two more brothers because our Mom gave birth to four babies. One of our brothers has gone to live in Australia to be a professional show dog. We just found out that he's also the proud father of five babies!! Ma mumbled something about 'teenage fathers' when she found out... we're not sure what that means?

We found a picture of him on the internet. His new mother loves him just like our Ma loves us and she has a website for him and his new brothers and sisters.

This is him. His name is Edenmist Daydream Believer (Imp NZ), Tasman or 'Tassie' for short. When we were still living together, he was called 'Rebel' and our Ma remembers holding him on her lap once.

Our our brother still lives with his mother as far as we know. He was always a bit of a loner and hasn't kept in touch. He's hoping to be a show dog too one day.

Dog tug-of-war

Hello efurrybody! Thank you for all your nice comments about our new blog layout. We're glad you like it.

There isn't anything terribly exciting or blogworthy happening around here at the moment so we're just going to post a little video that was taken two days or so ago, when we were paying tug of war with our favourite tuggie that our Ma got for free from the animal shelter. Mama says she's spent a small fortune on dog toys but we always go back to this one (and Jessie loooooves her duckie of course!).

Tomorrow should be an interesting day because our pawrents have called out an electrician to fix our outside lighting. It came on out of it's own accord two days ago and they couldn't switch it off until Papa went outside to the bix box by the side of the house and turned one of the main light switches off. Now we don't have ANY lighting downstairs!

The washing machine has died too, so there will be a plumber coming also!!! Great!!!! Two new people to chase and bark at. Isn't life wonderful?

Sunday afternoon walk

Hi all, hope you like the new design of our blog. We finally found a template we like, thanks to our friends over at Laureate Shelties, who pointed us to www.ourblogtemplates.com.

We think we'll stick with this one for a while!!

The only problem with changing your template is that you lose your custom widgets such as the blog list but we think we've managed to recover most of our old links.

Apart from that it's been pretty quiet around here this week. We have just come back from our Sunday afternoon walkie which was an absolute blast. Not only did our pawrents choose a different route to make it more interesting for us but our Papa joined us as well and took plenty of family pictures along the way :-)

So we've checked out plenty of new lamp posts this afternoon and even found a cat to chase! Jessie would have loved to chase all the little children on the walking path as well but she wasn't allowed. She had to walk close to our Ma to avoid complaints about a 'ferocious dog' in the park :)

We got mail!!! Look what our friend LUDO sent us: A fridge magnet with our picture!

We never got mail before; although the mailman drops of heaps of stuff every day it's almost always for Papa so we were so excited when we spotted a parcel that had our name on. Jessie opened it with her sharp little teeth, she didn't need any help from Josh or Ma.

And then this beautiful magnet fell out, together with a little card from our friend Ludo. Mama says she'll put it in our album so it won't get lost. Thank you Ludo, we'll treasure it always.

Tricky Tuesday - Paws on bucket (Jessie)

Hey friends, Jessie here. I believe Josh told you some time ago that I would be showing you a truly awesome trick?

Well, inspired by Oreo and Misty's 'elephant trick' Ma taught me to stand with my front paws on an upside down bucket and the cue is, of course, 'BUCKET'. So, whenever Ma says 'BUCKET', I go and stand on it.

Mama says I'm probably the only Sheltie in the world to master a command like that!!! ;o) And she also said something strange about dog trainers shaking their heads... never mind!

You know, I'm actually beginning to enjoy having 'school'.

And what's best: my big, smart, clever brother Josh never mastered this; all he does is paw at the bucket wondering why he doesn't get a treat!!! Oh, I'm a clever little girl, woohoo :)

Ma took these pictures two weeks ago when I still had my long coat but I've been working hard on this ever since :)

Hi friends, Josh and Jess here. It's been pretty quiet here recently, apart from our incessant barking at the workmen on the house behind us so we've spent a lot of time indoors, working on our tricks and playing 'throw the cardboard tube' with Ma.

We've had a beautiful sunrise this morning but it may also be the last nice day for a while - according to the weather man a sub-tropical storm is on the way, bringing heavy rain, severe gales and the risk for wind damage and flooding in some areas.

Sounds like a pretty wet and tropical end to Summer!

Below is just a little clip of us having some fun with a new cardboard tube in the dining room... (very noisy fun!!!)

Hello, my dear furry and two-legged friends, this is Jessie again.

As you can see, I have fully recovered from my rather stressful weekend and so has the Mama. When she woke up yesterday morning her two fingers were no longer numb but the whole experience has left her pretty bruised and battered. She showed me two VERY impressive bruises on her knee and hip :) I don't think I've ever had such blue skin!!!

My fur-growing genes have really kicked in over night and my stubbly coat is already feeling very soft again, much to the amazement of my pawrents, they'd thought it would take a lot longer than that for my fur to start growing again.

Having a short coat even gives me some advantage over Josh - the big boy can't get a grip on me and I've won three games of bitey face so far, the count going up by the hour. That's what you get for calling me a sausage on legs Josh!!!

I prefer to call myself a 'designer dog'!!!!!!

Beauty salon, Foxterrier attack and a visit to the horsepital

Outside the doggie beauty parlor

Hi all, Josh here. So this is what happens when you don't take care of your fur... you get taken to a beauty salon and they steal it ALL away!!!!

Mama and my sister Jessie left for a 'walk' together this morning, and when they got back, Jessie was NAKED!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes!!! Thankfully her smell was the same so I let her back into the house but she sure looks different, kind of like a puppy all over again.

Mama said that she didn't want Jessie's fur clipped so short but when the groomer looked at the state of it and the knots and tangles in the chest area and around the neck she said something like 'oh oh' and 'it'll have to be a number two'. Aparrently the knots and tangles are caused by Jessie's oily skin... ther fur always felt very oily and slick and it just seemed to attract all the dirt and Jessie was always VERY unhappy came brushing time. Strange, because I don't have that problem. So, now her fur is all off and she can start growing it from scratch.

Jessie told me that they were attacked by a Foxterrier on the way to the beauty salon. It was dragging its leash behind her and wouldn't listen to her owner. When she saw Jessie, she growled, ran up to her and tried grabbing her by the throat. But our Mama doesn't stand for such nonsense - she kicked the Foxy in the ribs and it let go of Jessie. By then her owner came and grabbed her lead and apologised to them. Both Ma and Jessie were pretty shook up after!

And if that wasn't enough - in the afternoon Mama had to be taken to the Horsepital!!! This morning when she brought us our breakfast, she slipped and fell over on the wooden deck and hurt her elbow and hand and her fingers went numb. So Papa took her to the Horsepital to be checked out and they were gone for over three hours!! Mama told us not to worry - there is nothing seriously wrong with her hand but she's irritated a nerve and tendon, that's why the hand is feeling numb. In a few days, when the swelling goes down, the symptoms should settle.

So, as you can see, we didn't have the best of days... hopefully next week everything will be back to normal.

Hi folks, this is Jessie. I want you all to take a VERY good look at me because next time you'll see me I will look TOTALLY different!!!

Mama told me last night that she's made a 'hair appointment' for me. We're going to go to the dog groomer's tomorrow morning where I will be getting what Mama calls a 'summer haircut'. I'm not quite sure what that means but I presume they are going to be doing something to my fur?

It's all a bit mysterious but I'm not scared (yet).... Papa said something strange though this morning, like we could take her to the sheep shearers because she's a sheepdog...do you have trouble understanding your hoomans sometimes?

I think I'm just gonna take it easy and see what happens.

Catching some Zzzzzzz's

Just take a look at my cute little sister Jessie there... doesn't she look adorable with her head propped up against the sliding door?

And she SNORES like a freight train...!!! Ma and I are trying our best not to laugh because that would wake her up, but you just woudn't expect a refined little girl like my sis to snore like that :)

And she twitches and moves her legs quite a lot too, I bet she's dreaming about chasing cats or birds.

I wonder though what she's been up to all morning that she's so tired? I'll ask her when she wakes up.

And here's a pic of us just before Jessie nodded off... we were actually sharing the little dog bed but then I was forced to walk off and find a quieter spot because I'm a light sleeper.

Maybe I should ask our Ma for my own bedroom?

We're grounded

Oh, bugger!!!!! It's a beautiful day outside but we're stuck indoors with our Ma :( :(

We got grounded because we've been barking all morning. There's a house being built behind us currently and the workmen just keep coming and going. There's shouting and hollering and a noisy radio playing.... what can the dogs of the house do but bark at them???? Someone's got to tell them that this is our territory and that they are not supposed to come down here and steal our bones.

Unfortunately for us, Ma doesn't seem to see it quite that way. She even said 'hello' to one of the men and apologised for OUR noise!!!!!

So here we are, lying on our mat behind her chair, waiting for it to turn 11am so that we can at least go out to the shops and buy some nice fresh bread... of which we won't get any, of course. And we're out of decent dog chews, too, just those flippin' rawhide Christmas crackers that we don't like.

Sigh... it's a dogs' life!!!!!!

Come on, Ma! What you're waiting for? Can't you see I'm hungry?????

Not sure about you, but I can tell the time without even wearing a watch around my wrist. I know when it's time to get up and when it's time to come to the front door because it's bedtime and I sure can tell when it's 7pm and my dinner is due!

And being a teenage boy, I'm ALWAYS hungry.... Mama even has to feed Jessie separately in another room because she takes a little more time over her food and if I had the chance, I'd eat her's as well. :) :)

It's not Jessie's fault though, she just has a smaller stomach and can't eat that much food in one go. We had a dog trainer person here when we were still really small and this person said, Mama should take the food off of her after 10 minutes to teach her to eat faster.... Fortunately Mama decided to listen to her own insticts and allows her half an hour. She's just sorry about the 120Dollars that she'd had to fork out for that 'advice'.

Anyways, I'm just rambling on, so I better get back to my dinner and let you go :)

We're so bored!!!

The last three days or so have been really quite boring. It's very warm and humid outside and the weather is making everyone feel all tired and grumpy and we're not even in the mood to go outside and play like we normally do, so we've spent most of our time lying next to Mama's chair in her small home office.

The only one to be enjoying herself seems to be our Mama. The other night she stayed out real late because she went to something called a 'journal making workshop'. There she was taught how to make pretty albums using decorative papers and fabrics and embellish them with buttons, ribbons and little charms... she was very proud of her little album but we immediately noticed that there was something wrong with it - there wasn't a picture of dog on the front cover to start with and it ought to be smelling of a rotting cannon bone and not of rose perfume!

When we told her she said that it's meant to be a people album, and not a dog album but that we were allowed to sign the front page with our paw prints if we wanted to. That's better than nothing...

Apart from that, nothing's new but below is a cute little video that shows us doing what we do best - playing bitey-face :) It starts at 0:33 with a full-on attack by Jessie!!

First annual health check

We had our first annual health check today and the vet was VERY pleased with us!!! She said we're in top condition and are as happy and healthy as can be. That's really good news especially since we've had such a bad run late last year. Jessie weighs 10.5kg and is now officially a 'medium sized' dog and I'm a whopping 18.4kg!!

Our vet is really nice. She remembered that Mama calls me 'Bubba' and that Jessie doesn't like the examination table so she sat on the floor with us while she examined us.

Jessie has a little heart murmur that we need to keep an eye on but at this point in time she's doing just fine. Mama talked about our poo-eating habit with the vet and she's ordered some granules that she can put in our food and apparently it makes our poop go all smelly and foul tasting. For various reasons Ma and the vet both believe that we're playing with and eating our poop for fun so it's best to break that habit as soon as possible. It will probably also stop me (Josh) from having to throw up all the time.

I have a very sensitive stomach and I'm very prone to throwing up early in the morning (reflux) and especially after I've had a 'sausage'. If this gets any worse, I may have to go on Maxolon to soothe my stomach, but that would be a life-long thing and we'd want to go without it as long as possible.

We also talked about my sister Jessie's baby fangs and they will have to come out at some stage. The vet had a good look at them together with Mama and she explained to Ma that the teeth are translucent, with means they are dead and will most certainly decay over time which could lead to gum infection and possible loss of the big canines (Nicki, if you're reading this, I hope I got this right...?) so it's best to get them whipped out while Jessie is still a young dog. It would mean total anaesthetic and one day in hospital. We may have this done on a Friday, when Daddy works from home and can drive us there and back.

After we've had our jabs, we went to the local butchers and bought a nice smelly cannon bone. The thing smelled so bad (to a hooman nose) that we even got it half price!!!!

The orange book - for Ludo

Hey Ludo, this is me with the orange book we talked about. I've had a good look at it and it seems that someone has ripped out the pages where it talks about more treats and people food!!! I'm sure it was Mama. She doesn't want us to have too much fun the old spoil-sport!!!!

Mama says there's another section missing also - the one that tells hoomans what to do when they catch you with a huge big piece of poop in your mouth...!!!! I like to have 'em for my afternoon tea, especially when they are still nice and warm. Ma says it's on the 'talk-about-it-to-the-vet-list' for tomorrow when we have our first annual check up.

We're also going to talk to the vet about my baby fangs - whether they can be left in our have to be taken out. Apparently it takes a whole day if you have to have them whipped out - they give you anaesthetics and all that and they make you feel pretty wobbly for a few hours.

BTW - Do you (or any of the other guys) like children? They are too noisy for my liking and I've begun to bark and growl at them so they know to leave me alone. It works well but Ma isn't too happy about it :-( What's your take on it?

Flower Power

Sigh... It was one of these walks again... Mama insisted on stopping every 100 metres or so to take pictures of me sitting or lying beneath some stupid flower!!!! She even made me smile on command, can you believe that?!

On the other hand - how could one not laugh (through gritted teeth!) at a hopping, dancing and squealing hooman who is trying to get your attention? Flowers are Mama's weak point, I can tell you that.

I just don't understand what all the fuss is about - I mean, some smell good and others are as big as a cake but let's face it friends: You can't beat a good smelly old cannon bone!!!

Last but not least though it was my turn and (*camera clicks*)- MAMA!!! STOP TAKING PICTURES OF MY BUTT!!!! DO YOU KNOW NO SHAME?????

We've been tagged by Abby and Aidan, the new Sheltie pups on the block, to open the 5th picture file on our computer, choose the 5th photo and describe it.

The photo above is an outtake - we were supposed to be sitting politely and smile into the camera but instead we opted to have the vegetarian meal on offer :)

Ma says that if she ever lost her job due to the bad eek-oh-nomy (what the heck is that???!!!) she'd hire us out as professional lawn mowers because we eat grass like a cow. She says she'll have to talk to uncle VET about it when we have our annual health check up on Monday, but she believes that we're just doing it because we enjoy the taste... we are sheepdogs after all :)

Tricky Tuesday - Cross Paws (Josh)

Hey all it's me, Josh. I promised to post some pictures of my 'cross paws' so here they are.

Unfortunately, they are pretty blurry because we don't have a tripod and Ma had to point and shoot while she was giving me the cue with the other hand and it all got pretty messy. In particular I didn't know whether I should smile for the camera or keep on crossing my paw or do both?

I'm also still a little confused as to where exactly I need to put my paw so we'll have to do some more work on this before we can move on to the next command.

Oh, and another thing - Jessie has been doing some secret training with Ma and will be presenting a formidable trick next Tuesday. I wonder what it is... I tried to sneak in once and watch but I got kicked straight back out! But anyways, that'll give me two more weeks before I need to show you my progress... stay tuned!

Agility Training

Ma says any professional dog trainer will probably shake their head at us, but this is what we do on sunny afternoons - agility training on the verandah, using buckets, broomsticks and other household stuff as agility equipment. :)

We missed out on the January training & agility classes and we're not likely to get into the February ones either... they are all fully booked and some dogs have been on the waiting list longer than us. Thank Dog our Ma is a 'do-it-yourself' kind of hooman!

And not only do we jump hurdles, we also use a row of six buckets for weave poles :) Jessie enjoys the weave 'buckets', but I get more excited about the hurdles. And then there's yummy chicken nibbles for a completed jump, YEAH!!!

I'm also working on my 'cross paws' and hopefully I can post a few pictures soon. Mama says it's difficult handling treat, clicker and camera at the same time :)

7 dog years have passed since Ma and Pa brought us home and we've been blogging ever since. :)

Ma told us that our website has had an amazing 4,428 hits since 1 February 2008.

We want to say 'thank you' to all of you for your wonderful friendship, and the love and support you gave us over the past year.

It is raining now...

Hey friends, Jessie here.

The three of us got mighty wet on our walkie this morning. Because they had forecast rain for later in the day, Ma decided that we should go to the park in the morning. Unfortunately the rain came earlier than expected.... a storm front surprised us and we got absolutely drenched on our way home.

Josh was so upset about having heavenly water poured out over him that he even refused to be in the photo!!! I don't mind a bit of rain - even my summer coat is still pretty thick but Josh's fur is now very thin, so my poor brother got soaked to the skin.
We found him lying outside the front door feeling very sorry for himself and trying to clean up his muddy paws.

And they say I'm the baby ;o) Well, I'll better go and see if I can help him!

The Letter Game

Our dear friend Reilly challenged us to play the letter game with him.

It's simple and great fun. This is how it works:

You pick one (just one) buddy from your list and you give them a letter. They must then list and describe 5 things beginning with that letter.

Reilly picked the letter "C" for us. Now what we have to do is on our blog, list 5 things we like, don't like, are thinking about or what ever and why.

And when we have finished, we'll give a letter to a buddy on your list and lets see what you they come up with.

All clear? So here goes:

Cheese - One of the best things in the world we reckon!!Ma gives us cheese every time we master a particularly hard trick or when she rewards us for being just drop dead gorgeous :)

Car - We hate the car. The car is the big black thing that takes us from A to B or one nice beach to another nice beach but makes us chunder in the process (another 'c' word, and it means 'to vomit' for all you non-Aussies and Kiwis). Papa always teaches us heaps of new words when we're in the car with him but Ma says we're not allowed to use them at home. It's surely not Papa's fault that other people don't know how to drive!!! ;o)

Crate - We're crate and clicker trained (wow, yet another 'c' word!!!) and love going to bed at night because there's always a doggie chocololate drop waiting for us in our crate.

Cannon bone - The smellier the better!

Cuddles - Reilly, we know this must come as a bit of a shock to you but we love cuddles, bear hugs and Sheltie kisses.

These were our C's. We would love to play with Oreo and Misty and we give them the letter 'O' . Please come and play with us!!!!!

And once again our Ma crept up on us with her camera because she thought we were doing something funny.

Geez... what's so funny about taking your afternoon nap pressed against the dining room window??? If she was in danger of having her fur ruffled by an afternoon seabreeze wouldn't she do the same? Oh, um...we forgot... she doesn't have any fur. And she sleeps in the big warm people basket upstairs where we're not allowed (yet....!)

So here we go! Above is a picture of our father Theo. It was taken on 19 January 2008 at the Porirua Dog Show and Daddy was of course doing what Daddy does best:

Although - Daddy didn't win anything that day. His Ma said it was because he was not in full coat but I wonder if it's because he doesn't have any sexy white fur on the back of his neck like I do????

But apart from that - can you see the similarity? Ma says we almost look like twins. I post a close up of my face below. Our markings are so similar and we even share the white stripe on our foreheads that is just a little more pronounced in me than it is in him. And of course I'm much bigger!!!
